El celler de Can Roca, una symfonía fantástica, Jaume Coll (book) New hardcover book in blister. Spanish edition. Domeny Editions. 2006.

1986-2006: Twenty years of Can Roca kitchen and cellar! 1986-2006: ¡Veinte años de cocina y celler de Can Roca!

In August 1986, Joan and Joseph Roca opened El Celler right next to Can Roca, their parents’ bar and restaurant. The book sets out the upward trajectory of the house over these twenty years of history, step by step and person by person, as there are three protagonists, once the youngest brother joins the group. It is therefore a book of three; Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca (in addition to the parents whose bar was the incubator of the project). Three brothers, three games. Technical solidity, culinary knowledge, imaginative capacity are integrated into the development of the ideal scheme which is quite a delight. They work as a team in favor of creative and avant-garde cuisine, in concepts and techniques. At El Celler, the basic elements of each restaurant, savory cuisine and sweet cuisine, combine so perfectly with the drink that you suspect we are close to paradise.

In such a case, the guest’s degree of satisfaction is obviously high: he floats in pleasure. There, a ceremony takes place twice a day that leaves speech second, because the prize goes to sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. The author underlines this and places before the reader one of the most beautiful and ancient Western representations of the five senses, as a reference, parallel, analogous artistic icon. As well as the musical comparison suggested in the title, born in the wheel of gastronomic delights displayed in the house: a fantastic symphony performed with rigor and fullness, with three soloists, the first violin, the viola and the cello.
